taken both in my neighbourhood and in the city

A series of collected images used as inspiration

I'm really interested in both textures and industrial materials; cement and wall plaster could be materials I use in a future project. The various textures found in walls are really intruiging with layers of wallpaper, plaster and paint. The same goes for layered posters and advertisements. The history evident in these things can be really lovely. Some bars and cafes purposefully try to create this kind of vibe by leaving some things unfinished.

Found materials can tell a story when arranged in a certain way. I wonder if I could translate this into a work outside of photography.

I look at this and get concerned for the fate of that pristine wallpaper in the background.

More texture, including fingerprints. More direct evidence of human involvement.

The blinds weren't installed in a gallery as seen in the images, but were instead displayed as prints.

I love the familiarity of found materials; they seem to have a history - particularly for these, which have been bent out of shape and seemingly discarded

'Yoshihide Sodeoka is a multidisciplinary artist and musician from Yokohama, Japan, who’s lived in New York for more than two decades. Sodeoka’s neo-psychadelic work with vide, GIFs and print simultaneously inhabits the world of fine art, music (he’s collaborated with bands like Tame iMpala, Yeasayer and The Presets), fashion (creating art prints for brands and magazines like Sandro Paris, WAD magazine) and advertising (developing projects with brands like Apple and Nike). Sodeoka’s work has been shown all over the world, from Centre Pompidou, Tate Britain, Museum of Modern Art, Deitch Projects, a Gaite lyrique, Channel 4 Random Acts UK, Baltimore Museum of Art, OneDotZero, Sonar Festival, Haifa Museum Israel, Transmediale and Whitney Museum of America;s Art Artport. He’s in the permanent collections of Museum of the Moving Image as well as the San Fransisco Museum of Modern Art. Sodeoka’s experimental video art label, Undervolt & Co., was founded in 2013.'


more glitch photography. I find this an intresting way to distort an image, or combine different imagery; if one were to work out how to get more precise outcomes - or even without precision - different stories could be told..

While these photos were also included in the photography research for the 'One and the Many' project, I also like the content, particularly of the first two, the raw industrial materials are ones that I could incorporate into a sculpture or installation.
